4/17/18 Letter to Families Impacted by Weather Event

Aloha Families,

Please allow us to send out best wishes to all of our families who may have been impacted by the recent weather and subsequent flooding events.

We want all of our families to know that AHES endeavors not to just be a place of learning and teaching, but also a place of caring and nurturing. While we are aware of several families either displaced or negatively impacted by the recent severe weather and flooding in our community, we also understand that we may not fully know the extent of impact this past weekend may have had or be having on our families. We want to invite all of you to reach out to us here at Aina Haina Elementary if you are concerned about your own child or others who may have been affected. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, any counselor, an administrator or any other staff member and we will work with you to connect your child or your family to appropriate resources both here at school and outside.

While in school, our teachers, counseling staff and other adults on campus will be reaching out and talking story with students regarding their thoughts or feelings about the recent events. We know that even our students, not directly impacted, feel great empathy for their friends and peers who have been affected in some way. We want to assure you that we will be working with our students to positively channel their thoughts and emotions as appropriate.

Again, our best wishes to all of our families and community members. We are a great school because of you and we are here to work with you and your child through these challenging circumstances.

Take care,

Tony Gayer
Assistant Principal
